Question BHX Closure

May I stress that I mean no disrepect to those involved in yesterday's accident by asking this question, but what was the reason for the airport being closed for nearly 24 hours?

Is there a requirement to wait until the AAIB has completed their initial investigation? Can this only be conducted during daylight? Was the wreckage thought to be in a hazardous position? Was there any damage to the runway, or airport equipment, which needed repairing? Who has the final decision on re-opening?

It would seem that following a similar incident on a major motorway, the road is usually opened within a few hours, multiple pile-ups excepted.

News reports suggested that the weather was the main problem slowing the removal of the wreckage. It was quite foggy here this morning. Apparently the airport should be open again tomorrow.
