Flying the RJ100
Would like to hear from any current RJ100 pilots about flying this aircraft, i.e. Pros & Cons / likes and dislikes etc.
some questions I have:
CAT II or III / autoland / max. operating ceiling / cruise speed / performance etc.
Finally, are there any relevant websites for the RJ100 ?
Regards,
P.C.

You're talking Avro RJ-100 right?
Autoland to 50' DA, 150/75/75 metres RVR.. .Ceiling FL330 or 350 depending on type of pressurisation. Current effective ceiling limited, as not RVSM approved, to FL280. Approval had, then lost due altimeter accuracy, and I understand soon to be restored.
cruise mach .70 / 295 KIAS.
Performance. Very weight and bleed state dependant.
Good Points?. .- Well, 4 engines has got to be good. . .- Handles nicely.. .- Nice airbrake (on rear fuselage so no limitations on use versus flap).. .- Reasonable avionics depending on vintage.. .- Lots of reversion in the Electrical and Hydraulic systems.
. .Bad points?. .- The overhead panel. Yuk. But then I'm spoilt, having had the ATR panel before which is a nice "lights out hardly ever touch anything" sort of deal. In particular, there is a lot of air source switching to be done during busy flight phases (like 300 feet above decision).. .- The APU, notorious unreliability thereof.. .- Indexing and organisation of the flight manuals and checklist.. .- "Entering Warp Speed" sound (from original trek series) when extending or retracting Flap 18.
. .PC.
Are you talking RJs in general, or any ones in particular. Say a batch of 16 soon to be moving north from LGW?

Methinks PC is specifically concerned with the northbound batch of 16. But then on then plus side their performance couldn't be much worse than the current 735s he's operating!

We seem to be picking up some MAN flights from LGW. One on next months roster I think. Why not bowl up at the gate, I'm sure the crew would be happy to give you a quick shufti.
If you want, pick one and I'll drop a note in the skippers pigeons hole.

Many thanks for all the information provided - exactly the facts and figures I was after.
It was the Avro RJ100 I was asking about, i.e. those which are imminently to 'move house' to north of Watford Gap.
Capt P.B. & Hand Solo - was it really that obvious ?

I shall investigate and then get in touch. Just leaving on tour though so will be a few days.

Actually not all RJs are certified to FL350. Earlier models are limited to FL330 due to an older analog pressurisation system.
