Jar-Ops and Insurance
Does anyone know anything about JAR-OPS insurance requirements for single-crew operations, ie minimum hours as PIC?
I have heard vague words about 700 for Air taxi type ops and 1000 for Perf A aircraft... which I find mildly alarming - does this mean there's MORE hoops to jump thru??? Does this mean I cannot fly single-crew with pax until I have a legal minimum experience? And how can I get this experience if I cannot fly??

The insurance requirements in terms of 'minimum flying hours required' are normally set by the Underwriter who undertakes the risk and vary from one syndicate/company to the next.. .I have not seen any JAR-Ops info. but it would be most unusual, IMHO, for a regulatory authority to lay down experience minima for insurance purposes. Only minimum level of third party and passenger legal liability cover for operators are normally laid down by the regulators. Of course, with JAR everything could have changed! <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">
