Lightbulb English Language

Greetings,
I am a former biscuit shooter who is now enrolled as a full time student. I am doing a paper on the "Language of Aviation" and although I have covered historical reasons of why English has prevailed, I figured I go to the source and get your opinions. English is the language of radio Coms - why? What standards have maintained this?

Thank you for any thoughtful replies to my query.
