Smile Buying time on twins and turbines...

Hi there.
Has anyone out there ever used those schools in the USA that sell block time on piston and turbine multis,i.e,Navajos,King Airs,Sheds, etc? What is the legality as regards logging time as P2 on these types? Is gaining a Type Rating necessary,on a legal basis, before flying these sub-12500 lb. aircraft? Any gen on the Eaglejet school?
regards
TDD
