Randolph Aviator Sunglasses- Are they any good and where do you get them in oz?
I am looking at getting a pair of Randolph Aviators, problem is I cant find anyone in Aust who has them. Does anyone know what they are like for flying and if so what would be the best colour lenses (Tan or Grey green) and size lense 58mm or 52mm? <img src="cool.gif" border="0">

AV8, hi, have been using Randolphs for about 5 yeas and find them great. Had Ray Bans prior to this but I found the Randolphs better.I've got a pair of Concorde in the grey/green and find them relly good for flying. I am going to try the tan ones in the aviator style next, but these ones I am using refuse to break or fall apart.
I rang the guy in Melbourne who distributes them(found him on the web I think),he originaaly advertised in a union newsletters but he is most unhelpful. You can get them at <a href="http://www.transair.co.uk" target="_blank">www.transair.co.uk</a> They have a brochure you can look at, and they are on the web site. You can also get the little cusions I think.

I have used both types of lense, and they are both excellent. I think you just need to try and find the one that suits you best. The tan ones work well in low light and haze, and I now fly an EFIS equped plane and have no trouble seeing the screens with the grey green lense.
As for frame size, well, which ever suits you best.

I found the brown lensed aviators ok providing I was not doing anything too strenuous.
From your profile I would assume you're going to be working without aircon. If so you may find, as I used to, that glass lenses are too heavy and slide off the moment your nose gets even the slightest bit sweaty.
This is particularly true of the stlyes fitted with bayonet arms although Dave Clark type headsets do help clamp them on.
I started using a pair of lightweight Bolle glasses and even though my days of loading a C402 out bush are over I still use them. They provide 100% UV protection, wrap around slightly to prevent glare getting in the sides, are less likely to break and if you lose them they don't cost as much to replace.
Course, that's just my opinion <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
