The volcano and EASA

So, a year ago almost to the day, Siim Kallas, the European Transport Commissioner, said "The absence of a single European regulator for air traffic control made it very difficult to respond to this crisis. We needed a fast, coordinated European response .... instead we had a fragmented patchwork of 27 national airspaces," .

"Without a central regulator Europe was operating with one hand tied behind its back,".

The plans to involve EASA in air traffic were accelerated and there was to be co-ordinated crisis management for the region.

Are things better this year?

I think this year's event went much better than last year. Thanks in part to EASA....not yet being ready to interfere.

In any case it's Eurocontrol that coordinate airspace issues. Including flying harp airways.
