Question is the Pilot shortage over?

It seems like the worldwide demand for experienced airline Pilots has dried up, is it a sign of the economic slowdown, or have companies simply stopped advertising and rely on employement agencies instead?

I think it's a matter of distribution of jobs during the temporary economic slowdown.

For example, the large US passenger airlines (United, Delta, NWA, American) have slowed or stopped hiring, and some cargo carriers have recently furloughed pilots, but UPS and FedEx are still hiring (probably for the Postal contract and subcontracts). Also, I don't think the commuter airline hiring has abated...
