Post What makes an MD11 a good freighter

Sorry if I appear thick here, But, I know about the performance problems with the MD11 and how many Airlines decided against buying MD11 for pax ops. So, what makes it appear to be such a popular freighter?

Is it because there is no 777F or A330F yet?

or

Is it because they're cheap and if so why are Charter Airlines snapping them up?

Thanks in advance!

Hey DD,

I guess no one really thinks the MD11 is a good freighter

Seriously though, I think the phasing out of a lot of the PAX MD11's has to do with the fact that airlines these days are pretty keen on type-commonality. And with the MD not fitting with either boeing nor airbus, they are now all eligable for the freightbizz. That and the fact that the beautifull bird is pretty high maintenance makes it kinda the first one to go whenever a struggeling airline is making fleetadjustments (e.g. SR)
