Holding over IAF

Hello,

on most of the charts from Jeppesen, a holding over IAF is displayed. If the ATC clears me for an arrival and I see a holding over IAF displayed in the procedure. Should i make the holding ? When to make a holding over a IAF?

Would be happy about an answer

Greeting,

Hold if you are told to hold, fly an approach if you're cleared for an approach.

If it's a JAR Ops approach, you may have to do a holding turn for alignment if approaching the IAF off axis.
