Importance of the senioritylist?
I am trying to find out how pilots from other airlines would react to what is beeing done to Sabenapilots today?
Imagine the following situation:
The management wants to get rid of one certain type of aircraft in the airlines' fleet.
They announce that they simply want to lay off the pilots that are flying on that aircraft without taking into account those pilots' position on the senioritylist.
How do you think your pilot union would react???

Ireland's Aer Arran have just been through a similar rough ride haven't they? I think they were dispensing of all their Shorts 360 aircraft leaving the pilots high and dry even though many of them were some of the most experienced pilots in the airline. There's a post about it somewhere on PPrune, can't remember where, sorry.

Sabenaboy,
What does your collective agreement say? This situation MUST be covered by your agreement with Sabena.
I know that it is in our collective agreement, and company wouldn´t even think about going there. And IF they did, first they would meet a union saying no-no shaking it´s head, and if it was not a jokem you´d see 2500 pilots sittin´ on the runway!

Sabenaboy,
What AceMCcoy is telling you is the way it should be, and is, in operations with a healthy relationship between the union and management. I doubt this is the case in BRU. And I wonder why. Did your union ever have a fruitful working relationship with upstairs. You know, this about take and give. Or did you only look to your interests without thinking about the financial status of your airline. Am I getting close to the real story?
Been there - seen it - left it
But to your question about the seniority-list. Yes, the list is the one to use when cutting back on staff. For whatever it is worth, I guess you Sabena-pilots will find support and understanding among colleagues on this issue. Other than that, well.
