Asiana selects Trent 900 to power A380s
By Aaron Karp, ATW Daily News, March 17, 2011
Rolls-Royce said Wednesday that Asiana Airlines selected the Trent 900 to power the six Airbus A380s the Seoul-based carrier has on order for delivery from 2014-2017 (ATW Daily News, Jan. 7). The contract includes a TotalCare long-term service agreement.
Asiana's selection marks the first firm order for the engine type since the uncontained failure of a Trent 900 on a Qantas A380 on Nov. 4 (ATW Daily News, Nov. 12, 2010).
Asiana Senior VP-Legal Affairs and Purchasing Yong Wook Lee said, "The Trent 900 will offer us economic benefits … that will maximize the reliability of our Airbus A380s." Rolls Senior VP-Civil Aerospace Jim Sheard added, "This confirms the Trent 900 as the true market leader and engine of choice for the majority of A380 operators." Rolls noted that Trent 900 engines have been selected by 10 of 15 airlines that have ordered the A380.

Fantastic news for those in Derby.
I'm sure the majority of world airlines realise the long history behind RR and the quality of production etc.
From a passenger point of view (doesn't mean much I know!) but when boarding an aircraft and seeing the 'RR' logo on the jet - for those who don't travel frequently or have knowledge of the industry it is a sort of 'oh...Rolls Royce...'

Skymark Airlines has selected Rolls-Royce’s Trent 900 engines to power six of its A380 aircraft. The Japanese airline will also be provided with Rolls-Royce’s ‘TotalCare’ engine support service. Skymark, which ordered the A380 aircraft in November 2010, is a new customer for Roll-Royce. It is also the first airliner in Japan to order the A380.
