TO Real pilots!!: Do pilots have the time to answer questions for Wannnabe pilots????
I have a questions for pilots working for the majors:. .. .When u arrive at the airport and u r on ur way to eg crew lounge or hotel: Do u find it annoying when a wannabe pilot approaches you with a question abt for example how U applied for that airline and questions regarding recruitment at his or her airline.. .. .Kerropi

In my own time, I am not bothered at all, in fact I enjoy passing on my knowledge.. .. .If i was at work though it would be a different matter. If enroute the a/c we want to get there asap, and if enroute the hotel - the same, and so to walk up to a pilot and ask questions in this matter, I expect most would find this rather irritating.. .. .Do you expect solicitors (for example) to give up part of their working day to talk to wannabe solicitors about how to get there ??? I doubt it !

Don't pester me when I'm at work - someone is paying for my time, and they deserve my full attention to the job at hand. The time and place to talk is in a social environment, or here at Pprune - but on the correct Forum, which is why this is going to Questions <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" /> . .PS. Whenever I've come into contact with commercial pilots, whether at my flying club or on the jumpseat they are more than happy to answer questions from wannabes.. .. .It's like anything. I'm a radio broadcaster and I'm quite happy for people to sit in my studio when I'm on air and ask about anything they see or hear. . .. .What infuriates me is people who ask stupid or personal questions, or just seem bored.. .. .So in the days of jumpseating I would always respect the flight deck as a place of work and if lucky enough to pay a visit I would keep the questions intelligent and shut up in the right places.. .. .It seemed to work as rarely was I not invited back up for landing!

You are not planning to go to an airport and hassle airline pilots going to work, just to ask how they got their job, are you? . .I agree with others in this thread: Don't do that. It sounds extremely annoying to me. The place for questions like that is here, or at a flying club or so. . .. .Besides... there are many ways leading to Rome, and at least 2000 times more to get you in the cockpit.

Kerropi,. .. .Not too long ago, while waiting for the bus to drive me to the airport parkinglot, a couple of youngsters asked me if they could ask me some questions. Even though I just finished a twelve hour day I agreed; I have a fifteen year old son who wants to be a pilot.. .There was I, fully dressed, pilot case, gold bars looking like sh... whatever, and the first question they asked was "are you a pilot" !!!!. .I frowned and forgot to answer their question.. .Their next and last question was how much my annual salary was.. .. .What did they do wrong?. .. .I always thought there are no stupid questions. Believe me there are. . .. .So what can you do?. .. .1) Be sincere, not just a young asshole who wants to impress his friends.. .2) Be polite, don't ask questions you shouldn't ask.. .3) Look for a proper opportunity.. .4) Make sure you are a real wannabe, not a wish-to-be. Invest time in some research before you ask the questions.. .5) Don't be disapointed if you are refused. There may be a good reason for the refusal like "I don't feel like it today".. .. .This is certainly not the full list. I know everyone of us has a few items to add. Some did already in earlier posts. I you are sincere I am sure some pilot may answer some of your questions.. .. .Good luck. .. .Sq

I've met around 9 pilots in my days (from dc-9 to 747. Some from Air Canada, Air India and KLM)... Every single pilot was happy to see some 17 year old like me interested in this type of thing and they answered everything. Just dont **** 'em off when they're busy. I've met a KLM 747 pilot in India while we were waiting to board (I know he's supposed to be in the plane, but India was very busy that day) and man! we were talking for 20-30 minutes, just socializing. He started to talk about wrestling lol but are they fun or what! I've never met a femal pilot but they're probably just the same too.
