RVR

Hi all

I just have a small confusion here. I always thought that RVR values are given in metres but i actually went through one of the jeppesen airport charts, which gave figures in feet, ??? And also for example if RVR 6 or 1 is given does this mean 600 metres or 1 km vis or is it 600 metres or 1 sm ?

I'm not the oracle and am open to being proved wrong:

Whenever I've flown in the states, RVR has been in statute miles (or feet). Everywhere else (Europe, Asia, Australia, Eastern bloc at least) it's in meters.

I have never heard of RVR, or any visibility, being passed in that manner. The values should be passed in full, whichever type of measurement is employed. E.g "RVR 100 metres", "Visibility 900 yards", etc.

The minimums read "RVR 18 or 1/2". 1800ft is some 550 metres and half a statute mile is 800 metres, which sort of agrees with our charts with vis in metres

In the Introduction section there is a page for USA Format and one for Worldwide Charts. My bookshelf copy is 10 years old but they are page 126 and 127. The US info is given in "hundreds of feet", the Worldwide "values are shown in measuring units as reported by the governing agency."
