Question Eldest child??

Hi,

I've been lurking on PPrune for a couple of months - excellent website.

My question - I saw a documentary years ago about the effect that one's relationship with one's siblings (ie eldest child, middle child, youngest child, only child) has on one's chosen profession. It turned that, for example, most nurses were youngest children (I think) but what stuck in my mind was that a substantial majority of airline pilots were eldest children.

Being an eldest child myself, and having recently got my PPL, I thought a little PPrune survey might be in order!

Would any other pilots / flight crew / engineers etc care to reveal whether they're eldest / middle / youngest / only??

Cheers,

SC.

Cool

Don't believe much in that. Like it probably is with Track, an elder brother/sister often influence the younger siblings. Don't believe much in that. Like with Track, an elder brother/sister often influence the younger siblings.

Cool

I am youngest. My big brother is a pilot as is my Father. My nephew should have his JAA ATPL thing in a few months time.

Interesting point. I'm an eldest child, a professional Engineer and a part time pilot. My brother is in IT.

My Dad was an eldest child, and became a professional Engineer (starting at Supermarine, now they were the days). His brothers became a carpenter and a car salesman.

I'm the youngest and my older sister is a nurse, this seems to be totally contrary to your rather unbelievable theory.

Oh yes... My Father was yongest as is my nephew. So that would leave my brother to support the oldest child theory.
