Question Kinky Approaches

I recently sat in on a sim check which involved a diversion into Sao Paulo. I cannot remember which r/w we landed on but the approach path shown on the FMC involved a right turn onto the ILS. The turn had a huge kink in it which meant reversing the turn twice. No-one on the flight deck new why it was there. We thought it might be to avoid overflying the President's palace or something.

Can any one enlighten me? I'm just curious as it seems a bit odd.

Please forgive any incorrect use of terminology but the C172 doesn't have FMC.
