Post Charging for applications - is it legal?

The moral discussion rages elsewhere, but I'd be curious to know if there are any legal eagles hoverring around who could offer some views.

If it is legal, then are there any obligations on the employer? e.g. to provide a response in a 'reasonable' time or whatever.

I understood that under UK law it is illegal to charge someone to make a job application to you, it is in one of the Employment statutes but not sure where.

I recall many years ago CSE Oxford were administrating the BMid Sponsorships nad charging £25 for the priviledge of being interviewed/aptitude tested...think they stopped this as they fell foul of this particular law.

Your local Jobcentre/Employment Office probably be able to tell you...
