How to convert a JAR licence to a FAA licence.

Hello everybody,

An important question for me. I had a job offer and later it turned out that I need a FAA licence. I have a JAR licence at the moment and I am very much interested in flying for this company, so at the moment I am trying to find out how to convert my JAR licence into a FAA licence.

Does anybody have any experience with this or know how this works. Do I have to do theoretical exams and\or maybe flying exams?

Some additional information, my JAR licence is issued by The Netherlands. I am saying this because every country has their own specific rules.

Anyway, I hope anybody has an answer. I already sent the Dutch authorities an email with this question, but it always takes a while.

Hope to get breplies quickly since the is a deadline.

Regards,

Rigid

JAA to FAA

Yes you will need to convert your license.
With your FAA you can get a private FAA license. With the private you can get CPL - IR - ATP.
The FAA needs to verify the validity of your license. On the FAA web yopu can find a for.
In addition you need to find a school and start your authorization for training through the TSA.
I had a CPL-IR JAR and I was able to get an ATP.
The steps that I suggest are:
1. Get the form for the validation of your license.
2. Get your private FAA licence
3. Decide the school.
4. Start the TSA application (Read the TSA web page. I think you will need it for the IFR and type rating. But I am not sure you need to read the TSA web page)
5. Do your commercial. Written, Oral and practical
6. Do your IFR, written, oral, practical
7. Do your ATP written, oral, practical

The process seems long, but is not! Just start with point 1 and procede from there.

Good luck
