Second job...
Hi all,
It's been asked before a few years ago, but there weren't many answers, and the industry / working practices have changed a bit since then. So here's my question:
I spend a lot of time on standby, and thanks to the current climate / other industry factors also have 5 months off over the winter period. Does anyone have any ideas for a second job that will keep me occupied and pay a little bit of cash. It doesn't have to be a massive earner, it's just the thought of 5 months of no work is quite frankly depressing. (And no, I can't just go skiing for the whole of winter
- the company can request me back with minimal notice)
Ideally it would be something flexible that you can spend some time, a lot of time, or no time on each day (if that makes sense!) as the time available will vary from a few hours, to a whole day, but also I may get called out on standby and not be around for a day or two.
Any thoughts or ideas folks?

Have you considered being a taxi driver?
Depends on what city you live in but it ticks most of the boxes you require.
The main one being flexibility in working hours, you can choose when and how long you wish to work for. This in turn will determine how much money you make from it.
You will pay a monthly/weekly fee to the depot and licensing costs and seeing as your air crew already you should have no problem passing the medical.
Whatever second job you take on remember you will have to declare the earings to the tax man and also check your pilot contract as it may state you can not work a second job.

Get a Realtors License, and flog real estate in your spare time, or become a yacht broker if you are interested in boats. What about part time flight or ground instructed at your local flying club/school. There are a million things you can do, just identify your skills, knowledge etc and get on with it

I live in Manchester, so flogging boats is a bit difficult, and driving a taxi probably very hazardous!

I'm presuming you mean Manchester UK as Taxi driving in Manchester would not be the best option.
There are many other options for something to do short term including Multi Level Marketing on website.ws

There's a few companies in the UK that offer professional shopping services, you get paid for visiting shops and writing reports on them. Sequential solutions i think is one of the companies in question.

The last post is funny. Are you a millionaire yet from that sort of work as I have heard you can make $10,000 per week part time Pyramid selling/schemes are also good part time jobs, can make so much as just think if you get two to sign up and they get two and so on soon you wont know what to do with all the money.

It might be a little low brow but when I was out of work I took a job as a delivery driver in a takeaway. It's very easy work and if you get a busy place then the money is pretty good, especially at weekends. I simply answered a sign in the shop window saying 'Delivery driver wanted', there was no questions asked and no silly bloody application process. Plus it was cash in hand, if you get my drift....

Not yet Sloppy Joe but like the adage "Many hands make light work" can also be applied to "Many irons in the fire makes money"
