Effect of fuel contamination
Not a pilot, just an interested party here.
(and not a journo either)
Could someone please explain to me the effects of contaminated fuel? I can understand that fuel that contains "something extra" could cause less than optimum performance from an engine, even no performance in the worst case, but I am a loss to imagine how bad fuel could cause an engine to stick, for example, at 70%n1

Thanks for your replies guys. I can see the obvious problems with fuel flow restriction, and having to make do with what yuo can get.
But how about an engine producing more power than is needed? How is that accomplished?

If you have something in the fuel that makes more power than Jet A, I'd say stock up on it and don't tell Exxon Mobil.
The fuel control unit is set up for a certain type of fuel. Jets will run on gasoline, at least for a while but piston engine don't like jet fuel. You could with enough work set up a jet engine to run on alcohol. Just a matter of what the FCU is set up for.
