BAe 146 elevator question?
Why is it that whenever the BAe 146 is stationary, it's elevators are in the full nose up position, even when the hydraulics are pressurised?
Is it because the elevators are free-floating and the control column moves a servo tab?

Pretty much - the flying controls on the 146 are not powered - they use servo tabs to apply control. There is a connection from the control column to the elevator but only when the servo tab is through its full travel. You may see the elevators moving during taxi as the tail is checked and drained - but a far more disturbing sight is one elevator moving up while the other moves down - totally normal and frequent - but disturbing none the less!!

My question is why can the elevators works independently of each other.
Have a look at this Youtube video clip particularly the last 60 seconds where a BAE146 taxis down the runway, does a 360 to line up for take off and you will see the elevators move in opposite directions even during the first few feet during takeoff.
