Question VHF Selcall?

Has anyone had any experience using SELCALL with VHF frequencies? I know most of you have had HF SELCALL use and just recently I had a question about use with VHF frequencies. Where and what were the conditions and circumstances of its use?
Thanks!

Royal Jordanian used VHF selcal on VHF in the middle east.
Worked OK, as far as I know.

Though VHF SELCAL capability is installed in some aircraft (e.g., 747 Classic), there is little reason to use it. The main reason for SELCAL is so you need not listen to all the static on HF frequencies. VHF frequencies can be effectively squelched, so SELCAL is not needed.

...so SELCAL is not needed.
Possibly, however, it sure would have been handy for that A320 crew that overflew their intended destination...by 150 miles

Had a VHF Selcal from Iceland last night. En-route westwards between Iceland and Canada we were monitoring the Iceland Radio VHF awaiting a requested step climb. The radio operator used Selcal to initiate the clearance........

Over the years there have been some countries that required a pre-flight SELCAL check and you could do it using VHF SELCAL if HF contact was problematic.

The only time I used it airborne was waiting for a oceanic clearance before crossing the North Atlantic and the Canadian ATC said they'd SELCAL us back on VHF with the clearance. This was well over twenty years ago.

Regards,
BH.
