Headset Help: PA11-60

Hi all,

I recently purchased a pilot pa11-60 headset and think im having a few issues with it. When plugged in, there is only sound comming through the microphone boom side of the headset. (I checked volume is max on each side btw). I then plugged in my mobile and again i could only hear the caller through that side, and the caller could not hear me, nor could i hear myself through the headset like normal, as if the microphone was not on/working.

It works fine otherwise, however i can hear quite alot of background noise being transmitted in radio calls, compared to my DC 13.4's. So is there something im missing or do i need to bundel it up and send it back? Oh and what is that little switch labeled M-S? mono-sterio? and what eactly is electret noise cancelling? I dont think its working either because it is alot louder in the cockpit!
