International Flight Planning

I am in the planning stages of an international flight of a light VFR aircraft. England to South Asia

Im trying to find some websites etc. with information on;

a) flight planning
b) Airport information regarding fuel and customs
c) Overfly/landing permits

Ive tried looking in this forum, and on google but only find info on companies that do ferrying. perhaps im looking in the wrong area?? but any help would be most appreciated!!

Cheers

there are lots of companies providing those services, depending on your budget:

(no particular order):
Jeppesen
Univeresal
Skyplan
UAS
Hadid
ASM
Jetex Flight Support
Palm Aviation
RAK Aviation

you can search them on the web, they provide computerised FPL, fuelling, handling, overfly permits, nav fees and quotes. You can either arrange cash or pre-payment prior to your flight.

Thanks NZScion and C-N

Does anyone have experience doing all this planning by themselves?

In particular with overfly/landing permits. I know it could be time consuming, and I know the best way to find what I need would be through AIPs etc.

Is there any other extra info I would need to gather?

I have done many international ferrys with my last company. But all permits/visas were sorted by other people. I would like to do as much as possible by myself to bring the total cost down.

It's not impossible to do it on your own, but unlike other countries, Africa has no sita/aftn and no email. So permits must be done thru fax or thru phone calls. Expect phone lines to be rough and difficult also, unlike in Europe or the US.

The first three companies I've mentioned are not that good in African countires, besides those companies just use Hadid/UAS/Palm/ASM Flight Support/Jetex for their african permits. I've checked on their websites, average charge for Overfly permit processing is around 50USD/permit and for landing permits 100USD, plus the Navigational Fee, which would not cost much as you're only flying a light acft.

You can check with those Flt Support companies regarding customs/immigration, yellow fever requirements (common in africa), airport operating hours, approximate handling charges and landing fees, and fuel price at your destinations etc. I think all of their pages have forms where you can ask your questions and you can expect an answer in 5-10mins, all of the above companies are 24/7 and are quick to respond, according to my experience.

Great thanks C-N

Looks like africa will be the biggest headache. fortunately (if youd call it that) thats where Ive most experience with ferrying so I know what to expect.

I guess ultimately ill have to use a mixture of the two. My own planning and what looks to complicated get the "specialists" in to do it for me

Thanks very much!
