Engine failure on DL 737 SFO-JFK

Two days ago a DL 737-800 flight 72 diverted to Omaha due to #2 engine failure. One of Russian bloggers on livejournal.com who also happens to be an aerobatics pilot was aboard the flight. He describes that aircraft went into a steep dive to the right immediately following the failure, and it took the crew some time to straighten it out. Now given all the RVSM separation and all that good stuff, what is the likelyhood of a rapidly descending aircraft like that bumping into someone?
