I want to FLY MORE! Or put me in the SIM!
Hey to everyone!
Sorry guys if there is or ever was similar thread to this. I've been working for a european charter and low coast airline for year and half now and I wonder what are usual procedures with your companies on your minimum flight time a month. I am fully aware of the minimum 3 month requirement by CAA, but do your companies have any more restrective SOP's as in if you lets say dont fly for 3 weeks at all do you then have to have at least bit of sim flight time?
My company has recruited {probably by wrong judgment} many FO's and quite likely due to global downturn a lot of flights got of the schedulle meanwhile. I guess my issue really is that when I eventually manage to get a flight in I really do not feel up to speed and it generaly doesn't feel right to fly over 150 souls after prolonged periods of no flying. Thanks for any comments, suggestions or info you may have! Wish you all good luck and many happy landings!

Check your Ops Manual but the only requirement we have is the 30 day recency rule. If you haven't flown within that time period then you will be rostered to fly with a line standards captain. Other recency rules kick in if you are off long term and you may require an OPC in the sim or a series of flights. It all depends on the nature and length of your time out.
The sims are a very expensive bit of kit and are generally in use 24/7 with little fat to roster people just to practice some SOP's or general handling. You would be better off calling your crew control and getting friendly with them. Drop a bottle of wine up if that helps and see if they can't throw some work your way. On your days off you might call them and see if there is anything going. Consider requesting jumpseat rides which may help a wee bit.
Unfortunately with many employers now paying by the block hour I see this issue becoming more and more prevalent. Good luck.

Phone the training department and ask for jumpseat sim rides when people go sick, happens all the time. More often than not you will get a go as well. I got called to go in (on overtime thankfully) kerching I thought. The trouble is the TC asked when my OPC ran out, sh**********t!!
The motto, if you go in, be prepared to be checked.
