Fate is the Hunter by Ernest K. Gann if you haven't already read it. I'm not a pilot yet but thoroughly enjoyed it every time I've read and re-read it. Another chap on here (pilot this time) reckoned it should be on the compulsory reading list for an airline pilot.
The Aviator too, same author. Not so much as a guide to captaincy but a good read.

Vol 1 of the Ops manual is your best bet, be sure you are familiar with SOPs, not joking. Treat every trip you do beforehand as though you were captain, ask your captains to let you, most will and this gets the grey matter moving. The mental transition Right to Left is the hardest part and you can overcome that with preparedness and practice. Flying from the left seat comes naturally after about two SIM sessions.

Apologies Rainboe, when you read books this good you take every chance you can to recommend them....
I do communicate with many pilots on VHF as part of my job, and I could recommend 'My First Big Book of Manners,' to many.
Not implied at you...

Another book with tips & techniques is "Prepare For Command" by Shorty Callow (an ex-training Captain of mine & thoroughly top bloke). You can buy it to download, do a google search. Bizarrely it's sold through a website advertising a seal for showers & baths!!!!

Must read, for pilots...
I recommend non-fiction books from the following authors -
Robert J. Serling
David Beaty
Vernon Lowell
xxx
However excellent author and pilot Erniest K. Gann was, his books are novels.
Therefore, no technical or practical value for pilots.
xxx
Handling the Big Jets, should be the bedside table book of all pilots.
Also "Fly the Wing" by Jim Webb.
xxx
Happy contrails
