Standby travel

Gday guys,

just a quick question with regards to staff standby travel...

Im travelling around the xmas - NY season from EU to Aus. Wondering if anyone knows my chances of getting on. Im guessing people dont travel on xmas day, so would it be a good idea to try and fly over on xmas day or does it really make no diff as i wont get on anyway?

Anyone travelled staff this time of yr?

PS ill be gettin tickets on all connections i can on the star alliance network.

Good Luck!

Trying to get a commercial seat any time from about mid December until mid January is usually interesting to Australia. Standby is likely to be even more interesting.

The worst issue (whatever the time of year) is Singapore back to EU non stop because the aircraft are usually/often at max take off weight and even then may have unuseable, empty seats because of the amount of fuel required.

Aussie

'Fraid the theory that people don't travel on Xmas Day is no longer valid.
...not everyone is interested in/celebrates Xmas and in these days of t'internet all that happens is that the Companies lower the ticket price - it then becomes attractive for many to travel on Xmas Day regardless of the missed parties and hangovers....

Good luck...

A lot of airlines have a staff embargo from early December to at least mid January and won't even look at you, seats or not, so best to check before you buy your tickets. The only safe time I ever found was Thanksgiving day on a domestic in the USA.
