Filleted TWY?

Hello Everybody,

anyone came across the term "filleted taxiway"? What does it mean? Or what means an un-filleted twy in that sense? I tried google, Pprune search and Jeppesen to no avail. Anyone please?

Thanks for the help

Try a Google search for taxiway fillet and you'll get any number of hits that should help you.

I'm sorry I've never heard of it.

Sounds a bit fishy to me - maybe some one can pick the bones out of it without us having to trawl through shoals of info.

A filleted taxiway is one that has an added section to it when turns are tight.
If you have a 90 degree (T section) taxiway. you will find that fillets are put in in case the main gear leaves the taxiway during the turn.
So, rather than having taxiway junction at right angles, you have a curved section (fillets) to allow the big boys to turn their big toys around tight corners!
