Jump Seats

Would any of our American colleagues care to advice whether the Captain of an American flight has any prerogative concerning the use of the jump seat? In the UK we tend to blindly follow the lead of our North Atlantic cousins, tho sometimes, jus sometimes ya understan, taint possible ta grant credance ta sum ov them regulations.

These regulations dictate that I can't allow my wife or children to travel on the jump seat. Wassup!

A mate told me last night, that despite flying night freight only, his flight deck door must be locked during the flight. Courtesy DOTARS former Australian Dept of Transport and Regional Services.
