Surprised to see no-one has mentioned the mighty 75! Proverbial spanked monkey. I like!
Glad to see Green Guard has shuffled off to his hole.

Test flight 737-400 after heavy Maint. 10 tonne of fuel and heap of kitty litter in fwd hold 9000 ft per minute not even trying! Pretty fun, closest thing to travelling to the moon.

2,300 fpm, no engines, no zooming - average rate of climb. Aircraft: a glider in a stubble fire, many moons ago when these were legal.

Several years ago, a lovely Russian chap was at Biggin Hill airshow and wanted to go home. He called Thames radar, briefly, and was noted by us at London to be 3200' about 5 miles before Detling. Then his mode C vanished for a few sweeps, reappeared a little garbled then eventually settled at FL410 just to the East of Detling, approx.6 miles later. He then called us. We were somewhat amused as he was supposed to be at 4000', but in somewhat stilted english confirmed he was at FL410. Some hurried coordination later, he turned up towards the Baltic and went on his merry way home. About 45,000fpm we think. He was a Fulcrum. Best bit, he was followed out by a King Air who commented on the lovely vapour trails, albeit they were vertical!

This summer, A330 on an air test, full power takeoff with 20 tonnes of fuel on board - 8,500fpm up to FL110.................. No it didn't pass the flight test
