post accident painting

Hiya,

I've always wondered, crashes involving aircraft are widely publisised the world over. So why do airlines paint over their logo's and paint trim following an accident? its not like we dont know which airline is involved?

Sometimes that IS the case.

Not everyone reads the newspapers or aviation press / websites.

Airlines that are unfortunate enough to lose an aircraft will go to these lengths to disassociate themselves from the negative publicity gained, as a result of having your company livery still plastered to a crashed airframe.

It's not good for future bookings!

Accidents, painters and the press

In the airline industry, we sometimes joke at the fact that the painters arrive on the site well before emergency equipment and ambulances...

Another detail - we will avoid having complimentary cabin newpapers with "first pages" showing big titles and pictures of notorious accidents... as it tends to make passengers nervous. Was the case lately with the Sao Paulo Congonhas accident, our flight attendants removed all newspapers the next morning, before boarding the passengers.

Happy contrails
