G'day Rainboe,

The observers may not be mistaken, some operators may not be aware of the Aussie AIP paragraph and if their reference is Jeppesen there's every chance they will commence cleanup at 1000HAA instead of 3000HAA.

The reason for the 4000'/3000' clean up - specifically the 4000' was to reduce the noise footprint within a certain distance from the airport ie certain heavily populated areas - the reduction was I seem to recall only a couple of db's but it was deemed politically desirable to adopt as a standard procedure out of LHR and LGW. If its still in use after, it must be, 10 years it must have been worth doingt he trials.
