TP command time vs JET FO time

Gday guys,
Just a hypothetical question regarding the statement mentioned...
What is of more value, command time in a turboprop, or FO time in a jet???
When i say valuable, i mean in the context of gaining employment down the track...
Cheers
Aussie

I'd say Jet (but depends on the jet)!

P1 hours on a heavy turboprop will probably stand you better than some P2 hours in a Citation (for example).

Turboprop being an ATR72
Jet being an EMB-145

Tricky one that. . .

Personally, I think I'd take the command on the ATR, but the next person might say completely the opposite.

I know people that have taken commands on ATR's over a RHS in an Embraer - it's a good type for a first command and will look good on paper too.

I'm in this job for the left hand seat, so from my point of view, I'd take the command. . . .

well it depends on the job you're looking at. if the entry level is only at rhs then both should do providing you can sell yourself properly.

if it's directly into the lhs that you'll be starting even on a jet the command experience will be ways better in my opinion.

I started flying in the sixties and have always understood that a command on anything is better than the rhs on anything. My 2cents.

tp

PIC Time is what counts, which is LHS.ATR 72 MTOW I am sure is more that MTOW for EMB 135/145, so you would have command hours on an A/C which is a heavy TP.Also in the US,I am not sure about rest of the world, the FO/S on CRJ,EMB etc are not type rated only the captain,I am sure that prospective employers will look at that also.I remember reading somewhere that a captain on L188 electra I think ,went DEC on 747 as he had the command hours required. As they say just my 2 cents.

Depends what you're planning on doing next. My current employer doesn't give two hoots about your previous command time - tp or jet. Colleagues from my previous company were adamant that they would stay where they were to gain a tp command because "it would look better." I left as soon as possible, am now two years further up the seniority list with a major operator and on a much better financial package than those who stayed for command time.

What's more valuable? Entirely dependent on prospective employer. At my outfit, guy with MD-80 F/O ime is valued more than ERJ-145 capt. However, both of them would get trumped by 200 hrs TT fellow willing to pay for type rating.
