Sennheiser

Hello everybody,
I am a pilot flying a Boeing 737-800 and I am interested in buying a Sennheiser headset with Active noise reduction. The thing is that there are like 10 different models. Most of the people I have seen wear this headset have the 25KA, but does anybody know the difference with the KAP,KAL,KAX,KAP,KA?and also if there can be used in the Boeing 737.Thank you in advance

Are you living in the UK? If so try to get in otuch with a company called Headset Services who will answer all your questions.

I use a Sennheisser HMEC 25 KA which is excellent: I estimate that I am 20% less tired at the end of a day's flying. I fly a 737-300 and -500. I think that the KA indicates that the headset has dual jack plugs and it's own power supply. Some aeroplanes intercom fits have a built in power supply for ANC headsets.

If you are in the UK make sure you send your receipt for your headset to the Inland Revenue with a polite letter explaining that it is safety equipment not provided by your airline. They will credit the purchase price to your tax code

Can I ask a silly question?

What if I am wearing ANR headsets and the Capt isnt, how is he meant to communicate with you?

In my GA days I used DC ANR's which were great. I have recently started on Jets and I cant see haw they can be practical in a two crew flightdeck when the other bloke is not wearing them.

You ask him if he would mind using the intercom. That's it really. I find that almost all agree, and those that haven't used an intercom for a few years are sold on the idea by the end of the duty. Some have even bought their own ANC headset by the next time I've flown with them.

My policy has always been never to buy stuff that I can't spell/pronounce....we have the Shiitehosers in our aircraft. They've gotten better over the last few years and I would say that I am cautiously optimistic about their use. However, a lot of the FO's that I fly with took their butt to the US and bought ANR Telexes, I think 750's and some have the 850's....personal choice I guess but still better than the headsqueezers and virus spreaders that come with the a/c.

Got my Senn 25KA from the USA a couple of years back - wouldn't be without them now. Don't forget to get a charger and a handful of rechargeable batteries (at least 2000 MaH).

I don't know if this will be counted as advertising, but Marv Golden were good at sorting out mine. Don't forget the HMRC will take their 17.5%.
