Short-Haul Pilot life style..
Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but here goes..
I'm about to start my ATPL's, with the ambition of being a short-haul pilot around Europe.
What is the typical life style one can expect for this type of flying? .. I assume one is home most evenings and so this reduces the impact on family problems etc?
Thanks.

Sorry to be blunt, but at this stage, when I started, I didn't care shorthaul or longhaul- I just wanted to do the job and I would structure my life around it. I think it worked. I was worried about completing the course, not impact on family lifestyle. There are usually ways around solving those problems. It's important to get a family to understand if they want the benefits of the job, they also must make it work and find a way to make it work.
Shorthaul can vary. Charter companies don't have many nights away, but work longer flying hours a week on average. Big airline scheduled shorthaul tends to have lots of nightstops, sometimes 4 or 5 in a row on a continual trip without going home. Longhaul is actually easier, and hardly any more nights away, if any. Trips from 48 hours up to a week or so usually.
