All meat Halal on major airline?

No this is not a racist, anti islamic wind-up. A friend working for a major UK airline tells me that all pax meal meat is now halal so as not to offend caterers et al. I can hardly believe it. Hope it is not true. I have served thousands of pax meals in my time and care about the way we look after our animals in the meat trade, slaughtering humanely etc.
Tell me this is not true you boys and girls in blue.

This has been the modus operandi on many airlines in the past...what's the problem?

Why the presumption that the manner in which slaughterhouses kill them is humane? Both are equally ghastly - before making moral judgements out of hand, perhaps you should consider seeing exactly how "we" kill them as Westerners?

Bearing in mind that bleeding is considered less painful in some areas of the world as well...

BMED food is all Halal. But then all bar a small number of their destinations are muslim nations, or sizeable muslim communities.

WHAT?

WHY DO WE PANDER TO THESE PEOPLE?

I have no problem with them holding whatever beliefs they wish to hold and worshiping whatever and whomsoever they wish BUT when it begins to impinge on MY life in MY country WOW! This is pretty serious shxt!

They are a small minority, they do what they do out of choice OR if you are a woman because you are told to BUT this is right bang out of order!!

I am sick and tired of the rules bieng dicated in this damned PC Socialist country by tiny vocal minorities! Damnit they will want Sharia law soon.

I want my country back.

Thumbs up

Whatever you may think, Halal/Kosher slaughter seeks to achieve the following two things:

Maximise the amount of blood that leaves the animals body. Since blood is the carrier of most diseases, why not?

Cause the animal the least amount of physical stress. Now, the common Westerner would laugh at this notion. I don't blame you. But the fact of the matter is there are as many non-Muslim Dr's, Scientists, Animal Welfare people who will tell you that Halal Slaughter is worse than Electrocution/other Western methods as there are those will will tell you the opposite.

Having had a look around the web at various articles on the subject there is no doubt that there is a difference of opinion on the matter. I have to say that if I were going to have my throat cut I reckon it would better to stunned unconscious first.

The bit about draining the blood away is a red herring really, any infectious agent or harmful substance that might be present in the animals blood is not going to be purged from the flesh by cutting its throat. However none of the slaughter methods used on animals is particularly savoury, it's a pretty gruesome business however you do it.

I have no idea if the meals we serve or eat as crew are halal or not, would it make a difference to me?. Not really.
