A QUESTION FOR ANYONE FROM EASYJET !

I was channel-hopping through SKY the other day and came across some old re-runs of Airline. Can anyone who works for Easyjet tell me why they allowed so many of those programmes when almost without exception the Company came over so appallingly especially in the field of passenger relations. Perhaps the old adage of 'any publicity is good publicity' was uppermost in the minds of managers but even so........................!

Hi Beamer

Apparantly, whenever Airline is shown on a Friday night on ITV1, bookings go through the roof in the period following the programme, so you are correct about the old adage of 'any publicity is good publicity'.

Before I started working in aviation, I would watch that programme and think easyJet was the most awful airline and I vowed I would NEVER fly with them. I now work for easyJet as Cabin Crew and when I watch those programmes, I still cringe, but I cringe because 95% of the show is passengers making the same old mistake (expired passport, no photo id, no passport, turned up at departure time thinking its like when you get a train, and you can board as the doors are closing etc).

easyJet has no editorial control over the content of the programme, and as there have been (I think now) 16 series of Airline featuring easyJet, the programme must be doing some good for the company

What comes over in 'Airline' is not how bad Easyjet is supposed to be, but how awful and totally stupid the great British public is! Easyjet itself comes over very well, hardworking people trying to keep the show on the road whilst people throw tantrums over losing their own passport, turning up drunk, penniless and expecting to fly, apparently completely unable to help themselves or comprehend the modern world and how to behave in a civilised society. The presence of cameras doesn't help as they all desperately try and perform for their 2 minutes of fame and their staged tantrums through being correctly refused travel, etc.......and those poor staff just take it! Respec'!

The programme tends to show how dull some passengers can be rather than problems with the airline itself. If they're late, they're late. If the passport is out of date or defaced, it isn't the airline's probem (unless they accept the pax - then it certainly IS the airline's problem!!).

The film crew tends to sit at the nearest cafe to check in, wait for a flight closure, then race to film the next pax that arrive with the guarantee that there will be some sort of exchange to record. The presence of the cameras also tends to aggravate the situation beyond where it would normally have gone.

Passengers who arrive on time, check in correctly with the appropriate documentation and then fly to their destination, tend not to be filmed because it doesn't sell!
