Malysian Airlines Incident 1995....
One of my friends family was coming back home from Australia on a Malaysian Airlines 747-400 in May 1995 (i think) in which he describes as 'his worst flight ever'. Im looking for the report of this incident on the internet, but to no avail. I have look on the relevant site, but keeps on coming up with an error message after entering in a search.
The 747-400 was coming into Heathrow but was held due to weather surrounding the vicinity of the airport. Apparently the crew still landed at Heathrow and ran out of fuel while taxying in. Does this ring any bells to anyone, if so it would be great to have some information!
Many Thanks
Dan

First let's say I very much doubt there was an 'incident'. The 'worst flight ever' report is probably beer talking remembering fairly bad turbulence. As for an engine running down on taxi in, again unlikely. this would be a significant incident that the CAA would start investigating and the details would have been noted in peoples' memories. There just might be something that happened, but going by hearsay like this, if nothing untoward actually happened, you have besmirched the good name of a commercial business with what I think is unwarranted accusations. I would like to think they would now sue your pants off.
A search of Flight International's archive returned this:-

Rainboe may now wish to retract his rather uninformed comment as clearly there were indeed low fuel problems with MAS as stated, and indeed those flying into LHR at the time (including yours truly) remember this quite well.

Nonsense 411A! Low fuel events are not unusual at LHR. The policy there is to slap aeroplanes into the four holding patterns, with the pilots not always reasonably certain of holding times. It takes a statistical analysis to be sure whether one airline is pushing its luck more than average. I have had to declare Pan for low fuel myself- I won't bore with exact details.
This alleged 'incident' is nothing more than anecdotal years after the 'event'. Things get exaggerated over time. I think it is unreliable enough not to start accusing MAS of such occurences without precise details being presented first.

Ok thanks for the replies everyone - silly mistake by me to include the airline in the post and if its required im sure this will be deleted soon then.
Interesting read from the flight international website. I know a lot of aviation situations are exagerated by the general public, but this source of information came from a frequent traveller who flies regulary and I would not of included such in the post if i thought it would cause some friction!
Many Thanks

British Airways, MAS' London Heathrow engineering service provider, claims to have given the CAA at least six reports detailing MAS Boeing 747-400 arrivals with dangerously low fuel levels. It was from BA's engineering records that the CAA was able to uncover the extent of the MAS fuel policy malpractice.
First we had Malaysian, and now its SQ, both running their tanks on dry to LHR.

Sadly SMOC, I really do believe that Rainboe's reading comprehension scores in school must truly have been lacking, dimininshed only by his comprehension of the facts, as they unfolded at the time.
Sudden thought...maybe he was a crew member on one of the flights in question, and would rather forget the unpleasant reaction of the UKCAA.
They were NOT happy, and determined if it happened again, MAS would be
EXCLUDED from LHR ops...maybe not a bad idea after all.
