Doning a SmokeHood regulation?

I was just wondering this while watching some aircrash investigation and it got me thinking.

Now i know if there is any sign of smoke in the cabin, or the crew were busy fighting a fire, they would already be wearing a smokehood as they land and evacutate the a/c; But what if there isnt any sign of smoke before impact/landing, only to have fire?

We all know how quickly smoke kills, would it not be benificial for the crew to be wearing this before the pre-planned emergency landing? It means they can assist others longer before they become incapacitated, potentially saving themselves and others.

Does any airline have this procedure? Or am i overlooking implications that could hinder a pre-planned emergency landing?

Smoke hoods have a very limited useful life once activated.

Two types that spring to mind are the "Drager Oxycrew" which lasts for 20 minutes and the "L'Air Liquide" which only lasts for 15 ninutes.

I would suggest it would be a waste of these valuable resources to use them in the circumstances you have suggested.

Agree with engine overtemp.

Plus, the big secret they don't tell you is that the generated oxygen burns the frack out of your eyes and nostrils, which is distracting during an approach.
