LHR runway closure last Friday

I flew to EDI on Friday night from LHR, delay of 90 minutes due to earlier runway closure leading to all operations from a single runway. There must have been about 16 a/c waiting to take off around 27R at about 10pm and about 9 took off before they let our BA A319 away. Interestingly, the noiseiest one at take off was a SAS MD80 (or similar), made a nice sound that the bigger wide bodies didnt even touch.

Any idea what caused this supposed temporary runway closure?

I came in from DUB at 5pm and there was no problem/delay at that stage so must have happened between 5 and 8pm.

It might have been the transatlantic departure that came straight back in with a galley fire/fire warning.
