Hajj.

I am flying the Hajj out of Malayasia. Does anyone know if all routes across India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are flown at Mach .80.
If so, where is the reference?
Also, I hear that a UK airline has not yet arrived in Indonesia (two weeks late)!

yes, you do crz at Mach .8 over ind and pakistan.

it's also RVSM but i wonder how all the time.

how do they expect to things ticking over with no radar and a HF frequency which is like trying to have a conversation under water...

No - We do freighter flights over there and regularly do M 0.84 - M 0.86.

I'm getting dummer by the day, but why on earth would anyone want to fly below Maximum Range Cruise Speed? It takes longer and costs more fuel.

My MINIMUM speed for crossing India is M0.84, and even that takes too long for the crossing.

Regards,

Old Smokey

would be nice for all types to crz at .84 but i wouldn't want to have the over speed chime and red flashing lights in my face all the way home

....not that i don't enjoy it but it wakes my captain up.

They are flexible and smart, they know what types fly at what speeds, and they accomodate. Once you get east of India, RVSM stops for a while!
Um, no to both of those points.
Last week I listened to a converstation between a US freighter and two Indian controllers. Each controller was telling the freighter to do different things, and it was very confusing for everyone. They rapidly got fed up with this and asked which controller was the one they should be listening to. The female controller got really dirty and started telling the freighter crew off.
Then there's the utterly hopless HF coms, where you can't talk to anyone at all for hours and hours.
The Bay of Bengal is all RVSM as far as I know - I regularly fly from Kuala Lumpr to Dubai and it's all RVSM around that track.
I also fly from Dubai to Shanghai a bit and it's also all RVSM all the way to the Chinese boundary, up at the top of Myanmar.
