Works very well and very smoothe too. Nothing at all wrong with it.
Some companies don't like 'cos the equivalent button has a different function (level off) in another 'bus model.
Barking mad really and a classic case of a company trying to over-control and micro-manage.
Certainly not 'banned' in my British Airline!

I go along with Flaps One on this one. EXped works very well, I often use it to get the aircraft to put thust on when I want to climb today rather than tomorrow! Pushing Exped will give you climb power within about 1 second, when the FMA's annunciate THR CLMB all you do is then pull OPEN CLB and bingo - the aircraft climbs straight away rather than after about the 10-15 seconds it usually takes to achieve CLB power. OK, if there is no hurry to achieve CLB power then let the A/THR system do it in it's own sweet time, but sometimes you don't want to/can't wait....
Topbunk, I use EXPED in a similar manner, OP CLB just not cut it when you need to start a climb quickly.
I have flown for one company that banned its use and now fly for a company that does not. Personally I do not have a problem with using it. The only caution I have is to be very careful with large speed changes as the autopilot will possibly overshoot the target speed leading to a VLS or overspeed excursion. Best misuse of EXPED I have seen was when in LOC and descending from 5,000 to 3,000' in OP DES. My colleague pressed EXPED by accident i.s.o APPR. The worrying thing was that he did not know how to get out of it.

Like Flaps one said, it is used frequently in our airline and works very well. It will give .82 Mach/340kts in descent and green dot in the climb. Very smooth and will only pull 0.15G in the process..!

Apparently the new buses are not going to have an expedite button. Shame. We have it as SOP that after cleaning up after an engine failure we hit "expedite" to continue our climb to MSA.
