members i am not a pilot so please take it easy on me but however i was asked today when the emergency wording mayday mayday started please could you help with any info onto how this saying started and when / whom etc

This comes from the French word m'aidez - meaning "help me" - and is pronounced "mayday." It is said three times.

To anticipate the NEXT question, 'PAN' comes from the French 'Panne' for breakdown.
