Speed restriction @ LHR

When departing London Airports, one is generally given 'no ATC speed restriction' or 'no speed'.

This instruction allows one to increase speed to above 250 knots <10,000ft but not until passing 4,000ft AGL.

Can any bookworm quote the reference for this 'local' regulation. Doesn't seem to be in the Jeppesen Airfield Booklets.

i guess the 'bookworm' term will seem a little unapropriate for someone to respond to your question.....
Maybe bookwhiz will do the trick.....and I didn't know about this 4000' reg.....I increase the speed asap,but anyway I wouldn't reach more than 250 kts bellow 4000' unless I reduce climb at minimum...no way

In case there should be any doubt following Mike's quote from the AIP..... ATC lifting a speed restriction does not remove noise abatement restrictions.

It also doesn't mean you can fly outside the SID. A lot of people increase speed to 290Kts or similar when there is a tightish turn and end up increasing the turn radius so much that the aeroplane can't fly the SID. I like to keep the speed back until the turn has been completed, it also decreases the noise (power comes on at a greater altitude, or when level).

Manchester and Edinburgh now fine airlines for poor track keeping (not something I like), but we should fly the SID accurately.
