Why have the French snubbed the Brits?

In the development of a new generation SST?

France teaming up with Japan.

Please, please keep us out of wasting any more money.

And how quickly this was announced after the French managed to ground Concorde. No connection here is there?

I think you have this the wrong way round. Our whale slaughtering, protected species hunting, un-repentant friends are driving this one. It's the Japanese who are "toadying up" to the French to get a slice of Airbus building. Our Japanese friends are some of the World's most extreme "vested interest" exponents and unfortunately, are allowed to get away with it time after time. IMHO, they have no interest in SST whatsoever. They are not there for the learning experience, to assist or for the culture, merely for the bucks in something else.

In my opinion the UK is not much use as a partner for anyone in such a venture. When the Concorde project was originated there were numerous companies in the UK doing leading edge aerospace work, now the industry is completely run down.

After the Rafale/Eurofighter situation, there are no suprises in the Franco/Japanese collaboration. It will be the first and last between these two nations.

The real suprise will be if anything ever comes of it.

What programme?

A couple of mil in research money over a few years... not only is it 'pin money' but its is not news.. collaboration has been on going for a number of years, even prior to Concorde's withdrawal...

The Japanese 'want' the knowledge and the technology...nd why not get it where they can..

Its a little like daying the Japanese are 'snubbing' Airbus because they particapate in the risk sharing fashion with Boeing...

NO they are getting knowledge and experience for relativley little risk.

The advantage the French have over the British is that their Government sponsored research prgrammes are still focusing on 'pure' research to a greater extent than in the UK where much more 'product' research is being carried out.

Will the remaining British airframe subcontractors
cosy up to the major US manufacuurers for their survival?

DO you mean like BAe designing and building wings for Airbus.... or maybe by being partners with Lockheed Martin for the F-35? or Astor....or rebuilding Nimrods...

I think they are already pretty cosy with others...

It's kinda sad to see the British aircraft industry being reduced to subcontracting. Hopefully it will not disappear as has happened with the shipbuilding and auto industry.
