Do type rating courses at cranebank run all the time mixed in with line checks etc, or are there certain blocks in a year that are used for type ratings?

Yes they run all year round.
'Line checks' are on the line (i.e. aeroplane), so I assume you mean the 6 month sim checks (OPC or LPC)? They fit in spaces in the program not used by type rating training. (Or the other way round which ever way you look at it.)
