Aircraft Noise Levels...

... more specifically, Ryanair's 737-200s!!!

I live near the flightpath of the southerly departure at Abz and everyday, around 11am ish, the daily Ryanair flight to Dublin departs. The noise made but the 732's engines is absolutely incredible, compared to that of the more modern 737s and airbuses. It sounds more like a miltary type.

How are noise levels monitored at airports? Is it based on a quota system, so much noise in any one day?

Please note that I am not complaining about noise levels, just curious to know how Ryanair get away with creating that much noise!
