Self Sponsored Type rating?

So this is my predicament. F100 rating. 4000 hrs - 2500 jet. Been out of flying for 18mths and am finding it very hard to get back. Am thinking of shelling out for an A320 or 737 rating but am worried about being left out of pocket and lacking the 500 hrs that most companies seem to require in type.

Anyone been in a similar position or have any advice?

KT
