Generic Approach Walkthrough

Ok everybody this could be a tough one!

I know I'm asking a lot here but could some people give me their versions of a fairly typical approach and landing in commercial operations (large transport type), including the basic considerations and decisions that you make to perform this exercise.
This can either be really simple or really tough depending on how you look at it (how long exactly is a piece of string?). What I'm trying to do is build up a fairly loose structured block model of the approach and landing from which I can start building on more detail (It's for a piece of Uni work).
I'm not entirely sure what scope is required but what I'm really interested in is the decision making events that fall out of the whole thing.

Anyway, if anybody fancies contributing in any way that would be great.
